LOL! As far as I can tell, Joel Osteen HAS chosen life. He chooses to live it happily and joyfully. That's what I want.

Thank you, Confucius. That was beautifully said. Do the JWs even know what encouraging and inspiring is? They've never heard of it.

Well, you have erased any doubts that I had. I know now that I will read all of his books and his wife's books. I will find out when his show is on television and watch it every week. Hell, I just might fly out to Texas and visit his church and buy his CDs to listen to in the car.
I'm ready for a positive message that makes me feel good.
I will not go back to negativiy and fear and legalism in my life. I feel sorry for you

Well, my pictures weren't from Life Magazine. They were photos my father took.
Oompa, no, don't shoot yourself. You're out now. Just talk to your child about it. Don't ignore the subject like my parents did. Admit that you were wrong. My parents could never do that. It will make all the difference.

Business that will most likely file bankrupscy or close, post-Christmas
by free2beme ini know a lot of people who work in retail businesses or have members of their family in the retail business.
all of them have said their business is down or they are cutting prices to the point that the profit margin is low and with less sales, it is making for a rough way to pull in to the black.
not to mention the fact that several stores have empty shelves at this point, due to buying less inventory then they did in years past.

I don't think any of these will fold. I think it will mainly be small, family-owned stores like jewelry stores that will close. I also understand that some of the larger jewelry store chains like Bailey, Banks and Biddle and Kay Jewelers are hurting. Some of those teen stores like Limited Too, Justice, Aeropostale, Hollister may be finished too. Does anybody shop at K-mart anymore? I don't think so. Wal-Mart has defeated them. They're done.
I also think that a lot of businesses like tanning salons will close. People arent' spending their money on that kind of stuff.

That's so weird. I found a bunch of pictures almost exactly like these among my mother's possessions. She died in May. They were from conventions probably in 1953-1957. I don't know the exact years. I threw them all away.

I just saw Joel Osteen on Larry King on CNN. I don't know a lot about Joel Osteen. I've never read his books or watched him on TV but I was struck with how positive he is and how upbeat and encouraging his message is. It's such a tremendous contrast to the way I was raised by my parents and the JWs. And the music in their church is so inspirational and moving, not like that canned stuff the JWs call music.
I can't help but think that i would be a different person today if I had been raised in a church like that. I think I may check out Osteen's books. I think they could be helpful to me as I continue to work toward healing from the JW abuse.

oompa:
Is this your first Christmas? Congratulations! I remember mine too. It was a GREAT feeling. I LOVED saying Merry Christmas to everyone for the first time. And wrapping presents and having a tree and a wreath on the door. Enjoy!

The Reason ex-JWs Don't Communicate Well With Others
by StAnn ini've been giving this a lot of thought.
i'm thinking that, as a born-in, i was raised thinking that everybody who wasn't a dub was stupid and i had to go door-to-door to enlighten them.
and that the ones who were so stupid and stubborn as to not respond to my message (which was all of them, lol!

St Ann:
This is a GREAT thread. I relate to much of what has been written.
It is amazing that I am doing as well as I am after being raised a JW. I really am lucky to be alive. If I had stayed in the JWs longer I wouldn't be alive.
I really, really think it was the JW part of my upbringing that has made things so difficult for me and my sister socially. I have no doubt about that. I think if my same parents had raised us "normally" in a nice Protestant Church I think we would have had much less problems within ourselves and our family wouldn't have been so broken as it is now.

Would you throw a shoe at the governing body?
by Witness 007 ingeorge bush had a shoe thrown at him as a middle eastern sign of disrespect, so would you throw one at ted jaracz and what would you yell before the bethel heavy's grab you?
if it missed they would claim "jehovah's protection.".
"that's for the 1914 generation!"......
